The Kant Kaw School of Interpretation and Translation
for those who wish to develop professional interpretation and translation skills and prepare for a career that serves an increasingly international population in Myanmar and beyond.
As there is a new awakening among countries to engage more and more in trades, political relations and cross-cultural exchange activities, the necessity for translators and interpreters has arisen considerably in the contemporary society. In Myanmar, as the country transitions to a more open and democratic society, the need for professional interpretation and translation service is increasingly significant. And, the importance of culturally sensitive and context-appropriate interpretation service is even greater. To help alleviate this need, we are introducing certificate and advanced certificate programs in interpretation and translation through our newly established Kant Kaw School of Interpretation and Translation.

The Kant Kaw School of Interpretation and Translation is opening two new alternative programs for individuals interested in pursuing the career of an interpreter or translator in the future: “Introduction to Interpretation” consists of 3 modules (48 hours of instruction). The SIT students will be offered the theory and professional standards of interpreting (8 hours). After this introductory stage, KKSIT students will be given English-Burmese consecutive interpreting training (20 hours) and Burmese-English consecutive interpreting (20 hours). Module 1 – Theory and note-taking in consecutive interpreting – 8 hours Module 2 – English-Burmese consecutive interpreting - 20 hours Module 3 – Burmese-English consecutive interpreting - 20 hours “Introduction to Translation” consists of 3 modules (36 hours of instruction). The SIT students will be offered the theory and professional standards of translation (6 hours). Following that, KKSIT students will be given English-Burmese translation training (15 hours) and Burmese-English translation training (15 hours).
