Empowering Civil Society Leaders
through Experiential Learning Program

September 1, 2014 - Through the Experiential Learning Program, Thabyay Education Foundation annually organizes a regional internship program for leaders of civil society organizations in Myanmar to share and learn from the experiences of their counterparts in Asia region.  The internship program provides opportunities for Myanmar CSO/CBO leaders to share their expertise with colleagues in their host organization and, at the same time, learn from their different approaches to tackling some of the issues their organisations face.  The program is also designed to encourage them to become “Reflective Practitioner” by requiring them to write quality reports evidencing their learning throughout the internship.

Shelly Htwe from the Kings N Queens and Colors Rainbow based in Yangon is one of the three interns selected this year.   She will be completing a three month internship from September 2014 – December 2014 with the People Empowerment Foundation (PEF) in Thailand.

Zaw Min Hlaing, a member of Lawyers’ Network in Myanmar, started his internship in August with the Community Legal Education Center in Cambodia.  His internship will end in November 2014.  His organization promotes Rule of Law and offers free legal services to victims of human rights violations.

Thazing Hlaing, a project manager from Myanmar Muslim Students and Youth network, completed her three month internship with Foundation for Education and Development, based in Thailand.  In her own words, Thazing said in her report that she “learned a lot about Myanmar migrant workers situation in Thailand, and their (lack of) legal rights.”  She plans to apply her experience and knowledge she gained through this internship in the works she does in her organization.
